Try to take advantage of Piercing Arrow's very long range to snipe at enemy champions before a fight or as they're trying to flee.
An early point in Blighted Quiver helps harass enemy champions and get killing blows on minions.
During short range fights it's sometimes best to fire Piercing Arrow quickly, rather than charging it to full power.
Devastating Charge deals more damage based on the distance traveled. Try using Onslaught of Shadows or Summoner Spells such as Ghost or Flash to maximize this damage.
Spirit of Dread restores Health when nearby enemies take damage, including damage dealt by allies. Cast this during a large fight to maximize Hecarim's survivability.
The Varus Hecarim synergy stats shown here demonstrate the areas of his gameplay that do better (or worse) when paired with Hecarim, compared to his overall stats. Significant differences are areas of focus that highlight how his gameplay changes when paired with this other champion.
Overall, Varus sees a very large drop in his KDA (ratio of kills and assists to deaths) when paired with Hecarim. His KDA decreased from NaN to NaN. This drop shows that Hecarim helps Varus perform worse in ranked LoL rounds. Yet, the small difference proves that this performance change is not very impactful.
When Varus is an ally to Hecarim, he gets a barely noticable drop in his total damage dealt. This change may signal that Hecarim does not provide cover for him to deal more damage or that his support also helps increase the game's duration. Similarly, when Varus is played together with Hecarim on the same team, he usually scores many fewer killing sprees than when he plays alone. This is contrasting evidence that he is worse when playing synergisticly with Hecarim.
Moreover, when Varus plays with Hecarim on the same team, he on average receives a little less damage than when he plays alone. Receiving not as much damage could indicate that Hecarim does a decent job of protecting Varus in teamfights.
There is no ideal ally for Varus that will always be his #1 ally. However, Hecarim is a not very good companion for Varus. By locking into the same team as Varus, he decreases their win rate by -2.3% to 46.1%. This demonstrates that there is a bad synergy between Varus and Hecarim that allows them to perform worse together than alone.
Hecarim has a much greater difficulty compared to Varus. That means Varus players should be careful when arranging Hecarim comrades to fight alongside, as they will have to have a much greater level of skill to do well with you.
Fighting alongside, Varus players will likely observe an overall large increase in your team’s ability to deal physical damage. Together, these champs can provide a great amount of sustained physical damage.
In contrast, by pairing Varus and Hecarim together, you may not be providing your side a great deal of utility. Plan to bring other champs on your team that nullifies this disparity in their kit.
Regardless of your Hecarim ally's ability, you should focus on maximizing your gold income, staying alive by avoiding foolish fights, and clearing objectives. If you heed this simple advice, you should do well, regardless.
