Despite his abilities scaling on Armor, some games require Malphite to get Magic Resist. When those games occur, try getting Aegis of the Legion, Mercury's Treads, and Guardian Angel.
Armor naturally reduces the rate that attacks go through Granite Shield, so Brutal Strikes will strengthen the shield against physical damage.
Try to take advantage of Piercing Arrow's very long range to snipe at enemy champions before a fight or as they're trying to flee.
An early point in Blighted Quiver helps harass enemy champions and get killing blows on minions.
During short range fights it's sometimes best to fire Piercing Arrow quickly, rather than charging it to full power.

Overall, Malphite sees a very large drop in his KDA (ratio of kills and assists to deaths) when paired with Varus. His KDA went down from NaN to NaN. This fall shows that Varus helps Malphite perform poorer in ranked LoL rounds. Yet, the small difference demonstrates that this performance change is not very impactful.
When Malphite plays on the same team as Varus, he observes a little increase in his complete damage output. This may signal that Varus helps provide protection for him to dish out more damage or that his presence also helps increase the game's duration. Similarly, when Malphite is played together with Varus on the same team, he usually scores many fewer killing sprees than when he plays alone. This is contrasting evidence that he is worse when playing alongside Varus.
Additionally, when Malphite plays with Varus on the same team, he usually takes a little more damage than when he fights alone. Receiving more damage could indicate that Varus does a poor job of protecting Malphite in team fights.
There is no ideal ally for Malphite that will no matter what be his #1 ally. Yet, Varus is a not very good teammate for Malphite. By locking into the same side as Malphite, he decreases their win rate by -2.8% to 47.3%. This clearly indicates that there is a bad strategic relationship between Malphite and Varus that allows them to perform not as well together than without each other.
Varus has a lower difficulty than Malphite. That means you don't need to be cautious when lining up Varus comrades to play with, as they will have to have a lower level of skill to play well with you.
Fighting on the same side, Malphite players should see an overall large increase in your team’s ability to destroy wih physical damage. Combined, these champs can provide a great amount of sustained physical damage.
In contrast, by grouping Malphite and Varus together, you probably will not be granting your team enough AP. Make sure to bring other champs on your team that offsets this gap in their potential.
Regardless of the ability of your Varus ally, you need to focus on maximizing your income, warding to avoid ambushes, and taking down objectives. If you follow these simple suggestions, you will do well anyway.
