Both LoL champions are great. Both have their strengths, weaknesses, and counters. In League's current meta, Gwen usually loses when taking on Malphite, with a 48.5% win rate. As a result, Gwen makes a bad counter for Malphite.
While Gwen does have a lower win rate compared to Malphite, when on opposite teams, Gwen also has a much greater level of difficulty that makes her a more difficult champion to learn and master. You still need to be cautious when picking Gwen into Malphite.
