Are League of Legends Passes Worth It?
League of Legends has been knocking the ball out of the park with their recent events. The Spirit Blossom and Arcane events have made the in-game experience more rewarding for players; thanks to the minigames and free missions, one gets to attain better rewards. The Ruination was perhaps the biggest disappointment yet, but we are sure Riot Games will learn from that to deliver a fantastic event next year.
The big thing about these events is the event passes that one can purchase with Riot Points from the in-client store. We will take a comprehensive look at how these passes work, what you can get from them, and give you our verdict at the end to see if they are worth it.
How does League of Legend Event Passes work?
The way these passes work is relatively straightforward. You will get bonus tokens with every game you play. You get ten bonus tokens for a Summoner’s Rift win and five bonus tokens for Summoners Rift loss. If you play an ARAM, you get six bonus tokens for a win and three bonus tokens for a loss.
That’s not the only way to earn these tokens. As long as the event is going on, you will get various missions exclusive to event pass owners that will reward you with these tokens and other things like XP Boosts, Orange Essence, Blue Essence, and Prestige Points. Right now, a good question is what you can do with these tokens, but don’t worry; we will explain that in the next section.
What can I get from these earned tokens?
There is no fixed template that Riot Games follow with their token rewards, but we can give you a good idea of what you can generally redeem with your hard-earned tokens. We will divide these rewards into certainties and most likely to appear in the redeemable rewards.
Always been redeemable in every pass yet:
- 10 Blue Essence for 1 Token
- 100 Blue Essence for 10 Tokens
- 1 Key Fragment for 20 Tokens
- 1 Random Champion Shard for 50 Tokens
- 1 Mystery Emote for 60 Tokens
- 1 Key for 60 Tokens
- 3 Keys for 180 Tokens
- Event Orb for 200 Tokens
The event orb is guaranteed to contain a random skin shard and a bonus chance to have a gemstone, gemstone skin, or an event bag that gives you three random skin shards.
- A random TFT Set Egg for 600 Tokens
- A prestige edition skin along a special icon and border for 2000 Tokens
Likely to appear but no guarantee:
- Chromas and icons for different skins for 300 tokens
- Borders for different skins for 250 tokens
How many tokens do players earn on average?
There is no fixed limit, and there have been instances where players have even earned more than ten thousand tokens. I can tell you about my own experiences with these passes nevertheless.
I used to play like 5 to 6 ARAM games daily apart from my ranked adventures and completed all of the missions every single time. It always gave me around four thousand tokens that I spent on the event orbs.
Is the League of Legends event pass worth it?
There is no straightforward answer to this question as it ultimately depends on what your goal is. If you are looking to purchase all League of Legends champions through champion shards, it is one of the best investments you will ever make. You will get so many champion shards and quickly have the majority of the champions you want to play.
If you are investing your RP for skins, then it’s a double-edged sword. You will get a lot of random skin shards, but there is no certainty of them being skins above a specific price range. The worst-case scenario is you being stuck with legacy skins of champions that you don’t even play, and in that case, the pass would not be worth your money.
If you can get some significant skin shards, you need orange essence to unlock them, which is the hardest thing to earn in League of Legends.
We will highly recommend you not to go for the event passes if specific skins are your goal. Still, if you are someone who would love to have a fantastic collection of skins and other collectibles, then the event pass is definitely worth your money!
